Introduction

Downhole operations are unpredictable by nature. NeoTork allows drilling to proceed, even when conditions become too challenging by usual standards.

But NeoTork is not just for extreme conditions. By employing NeoTork in every drilling operation, you will  systematically improve drilling performance by minimizing axial and torsional vibrations. Using NeoTork will prevent slip and stick (even if undetected on surface) and constantly keep the drill bit in action, improving ROP. NeoTork also extends the life of all downhole equipment and minimizes drill bit wear, reducing the risk of a premature pull out.

What is Slip and Stick?

Slip and stick is a downhole phenomenon that usually happens at the drill bit level, causing erratic rotation. This originates from reactive torque variances generated during the cutting action. When reactive torque increases, the bit rotation slows down and the drill string ‘stores’ the energy that corresponds to the difference in RPM between the bit and the system driving the whole drill string (top drive or PDM). The variances in RPM can be great and may cause the bit to stall completely.

If this happens, RPMs of between 3 and 4 times the rotation generated by the motor or top drive can be released by the pipe when the bit resumes rotating. In extreme cases, the drill bit can even rotate backwards as the pipes store and release the cumulated torque. This can have dramatic negative consequences on bit performance and integrity.

The vibrations generated as a result of slip and stick can also damage various components of the drill string, ultimately causing early bit failure, premature pull out and deterioration of equipment.
